Postcards for the Military

Thank you everyone for your time and donations - this project was a huge success. A special thanks goes to Lyn Strauch, whose contributions were above and beyond

The response from the public was overwhelming; not only did individuals create cards, but entire families made cards together. Elderly vets began telling their grandchildren of their experiences; we also talked to soldiers who had recently returned from overseas. The praise for our project was universal as far as we could tell.

Quilting wise: In addition, visitors watched our free-motion quilting and satin edge stitching with interest and asked questions about our machines, materials and techniques. This was a wonderful opportunity to talk to the public. Today I was delighted to place 500 +/- postcards in a Priority Mail box and take them to the post office. They were sent to
Fairfield, office of Toni Colip, CA Family Readiness Support Assistant.

I sent an email to alert her that the cards had been sent; here are excerpts from her response:

"... From the bottom of my heart..a huge and most humble
thank you to everyone who contributed to your project.
Our Troops will be so appreciative of the thoughts and
prayers that go with them.

"...I will forward them to Mrs. Sandra Bombita, (Captain
Bombita’s wife) who is our Family Readiness Group Leader.
She has a troop package mailing coming up 5 / 6th DEC
2009, directly to the unit. So, wonderful timing. I also
have another unit in Afganistan, who I will forward the remainder
of cards to.
