"Four Scrappy Kansas Dugouts"
Block size: (12 1/2" unfinished)
Block colors: Mixed scraps, mostly primary colors.
|
Fabric for one block:
- Four 6 1/2" squares (made from 4 different fabrics, mostly medium and dark prints)
- 3 1/2" X 28+" strip of off-white solid (such as unbleached muslin). Cut this into eight 3 1/2" squares.
|
Instructions:
- If necessary, draw diagonal lines corner to corner on wrong sides of the 3 1/2" light squares. Match a corner of a 3 1/2" square with a corner of a 6 1/2" square, right sides together.
Sew diagonally across the smaller square, corner to corner, as shown below. Press small square fabric over seam line to form a corner triangle. Trim excess fabric underneath to 1/2" seam allowance.
Repeat step#2 for the opposite corner of the 6 1/2" square. Your 6 1/2" dugout should look like this:
Make four in all.
- Arrange the four dugout units according to the block illustration. Join the side-by-side units into horizontal rows, pressing the top row seam to the right and the bottom row seam to the left. Join the rows together to complete the block.
