PRESENTATION:
Ellen Edith - Storytelling Quilts Trunk Show
October 21, 2008 (Tuesday)
No workshop this month
Ellen Edith moved all around California but found her calling when, at age 16, her family moved to Guadalajara Mexico. She fell in love with everything handmade decorated in a riot of bright colors. Her brother & sisters were encouraged to paint murals on the walls and sew their own clothes. She has been sewing, cartooning and creating ever since. Hundreds of her original cartoons are made into magnets for stores. Her sister, who worked in a quilt fabric store, encouraged her to make the cartoons into fabric.
Ellen uses luscious colors and an imaginary world of pretend critters. She designs fabric with quilters in mind. All of the pieces in the line coordinate: blocks, borders & sprinkles for unlimited creativity. Her latest lines are Dreaming Deco & Cat in the Garden.
In her lectures Ellen tells funny stories of her family illustrated by one of a kind story quilts both whimsical and innovative. She cartoons the story and uses a combination of fused shapes, machine appliqué and embellishments to complete each unique piece.
