QUILT POSTCARDS for ACTIVE MILITARY
Did you see us at the 2009 California State Fair in Sacramento?
The POSTCARD for ACTIVE MILITARY project was wildly successful, far exceeding our expectations. State Fair visitors made approximately 200 postcards to send to active members of our military, while those volunteering to help ended the day satiated with good feelings. Messages on the cards were personal and inspiring. Entire families made cards together. One woman who had just returned from Iraq told us how much the cards would be appreciated and carried by the troops
Special thanks go to: Pellon, for their Peltex donation; Lori Wisheropp, for designing and printing our lovely posters; Lyn Strauch, for her endless donation of time, expertise and materials; Paulette Trafecanty, for setting up our State Fair connections; Kari Bauer, for organizing the entire event; and everyone who helped out that day at the fair, cut motifs at home, donated fabrics and supplies.
This project will continue at the Quilt Show. We do need more supplies! Here's how you can help: If you have the time and inclination... take a print, fuse WonderUnder to the back, and cut out some motifs. We found 2"-3" is a good size. Popular themes were animals, NASCAR, outdoors, flowers, etc. Put the cutouts in a baggie and bring them to the General Meeting.
We're specifically looking for:
• Fusing products (Wonder Under, Steam-a-Seam, etc)
• Peltex 72 (support/base)
• Fat Quarters of theme fabrics - holiday, animals, whatever you think might be fun to fussy cut for a card.
• Monofilament - for the freemotion quilting (we no longer need fancy threads, thanks to Nancy Gangler.
You can bring your donation to the the General Meeting, where we'll set up a collection station. Contact Kari Bauer, GrandmaKari@gmail.com if you have questions
